
As of Monday, just under 19,000 voters have cast a vote via mail or early voting, a turnout of about 8.6 percent.
Sure, the mayor doesn't have much competition, and three of the five races on the ballot pit a strong incumbent against a lesser known (and lesser funded) challenger.
But everyone in the city can weigh in on three citywide seats, including the one Councilwoman Mary Mulhern is leaving because of term limits. Three people are vying for Mulhern's old seat, including west Tampa Councilman Charlie Miranda (who's terming out of his own seat) and activists Julie Jenkins and Joe Citro.
People who live in District 6, which includes west Tampa and Seminole Heights, will probably want to weigh in on the three-way race to feel that district's seat, which has gotten weird and uncharacteristically vicious and partisan for a race that's not supposed to be.
Jackie Toledo has been catching grief over a campaign video and ad. Toledo is a Republican who has gotten visible support from prominent Republicans. She has substantially out raised opponents Tommy Castellano and Guido Maniscalco, an independent and Democrat, respectively.
Other than that (oh, and something about a sandwich?), there hasn't been much drama leading up to today's election. But the lack of fireworks shouldn't matter given that this election probably has more meaning than the presidential one.
