Today's news on potential news that'll probably happen next week comes from former Governor Charlie Crist.
Cate Communications, the firm that's apparently doing his press stuffs, sent out a notification to media outlets like this'un alerting us to a Tuesday morning event in St. Petersburg in which Crist would make a "major announcement."
Beyond the event's 10:30 a.m. start time and that we'll get more information Monday, little else about the event was revealed.
Here's a screen grab of the release, if you don't believe us:
But that doesn't mean we're not 99.999999 percent sure what he's going to tell us all.
Crist, after all, has been sorta kinda eying the Congressional seat David Jolly is vacating to run for Marco Rubio's soon-to-be-former U.S. Senate seat. Jolly is leaving that seat in large part because it's roughly 99.99999 percent likely the seat is going Democrat in the wake of a years-long redistricting ordeal.
Obviously that's an attractive option for a Democrat from Pinellas with uncommonly high name recognition who, despite being cuddly and essentially born for this shit, just hasn't been able to cut it at the state level after challenging the status quo by shifting his political alliances from R to I to D over the course of a few years.
So far, given how heavily blue the district will probably turn, there's no GOP challenger (that could change, but we doubt that and will tell you why later).
But Crist already has a primary opponent in Eric Lynn, a St. Pete native who has been in this race since before Crist recovered from the catastrophic events of the night of November 4th, 2014.
Lynn, who had a pretty good fundraising haul this past quarter, has maintained he is staying in the race no matter what, but who knows whether the DCCC is going to try to Ehrlich him out of the running with promises of, oh, I'unno, a stab at a State Senate seat, all of which will soon be redrawn as well?
Time will tell.
But for the moment, we can all look forward to packing some room or park somewhere on Tuesday to witness Crist's venture back into our wonderful little public sphere.
